Break for the Border - Friday 29th March 2007

Hi all! A good crowd in from very early in Break last Friday, All waiting for the Karaoke to kick off. Our first singer on stage was a real performer! Tom Loftus, from Booterstown in Dublin, sang the Verve and Bitter Sweet Symphony, and you would have to have been there to appreciate how much of an entertainer he is!! He was followed by Jonathan from Coolock, who sang The Dean Martin Classic, Little Ol Wine Drinker Me and he was good, but not quite Robbie Williams, although he did walk around the bar pretending his phone was a microphone! Nice one Jonathan! Belinda joined us again in Break, and she did the Bette Midler track, Wind Beneath My Wings and you could tell it wasn't her first time to do it, thanks Belinda! The girls from JFA were next up on stage. They sang It's Raining Men, and they were very good, especially the three small dancers at the back! Mary Daly really got the crowd going with her choice. She did a song from The Country Queen, Dolly Parton and it was Jolene and she was great! Jenny was up next, and did the Cranberries track Zombie and I have heard her doing this before and she is as good as anyone at singing this. Next up was Michelle from Scotland. She was returning to Break for the second time and was celebrating her 30th Birthday! She tried to sing Sex on The Beach, but she didn't really know it, so she changed it to Love Machine by Girls Aloud, and she didn't really know that either! Our favourite bar tender Ronan was next up to entertain on Friday. He sang two songs he has never done before. New York New York by Frank Sinatra followed by Grease Lightning and for his first time, he was very good! Lisa from Cabra decided that everyone needed a wake up call, and boy did they get one. She was superb at the Guns N Roses Track, Sweet Child of Mine, so thanks Lisa! After a few more people got up, we had a request for a man called Ed Cullen to sing. It was late in the evening, so we normally try and stay away from slow songs, but it was a special request. He wanted to sing More Than Words by Extreme especially for Babs, and me being a lover not a fighter, I decided to let him woo her! And may I just say, he is a fantastic singer and I hope he wooed her! Robbie Williams fan Baz was next up! He did the biggest Robbie track of them all, Angles and I would imagine he has done that once or twice before! Jonty and Glenn were next up and sang a very strange song for two guys to sing! They sang Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson!!!! Anything you want to tell us lads??!! Before we finished up we had to get Vali and friends up! They came from all over the world! Malaysia was represented twice, NYC once and Germany once! They did the Hermes House version of Country Roads and that got everyone in the mood for our DJ, who was there till the wee hours playing some classic tunes! Thanks for reading and thanks for singing. Don't forget, Karaoke, Break for the Border, this (well not this because it's good Friday!) and every Friday night from 9pm. It's just a bit of fun for a Friday night! Over and out.
