Bad Bobs - Thursday 28th March 2007

A very slow start to the night last Thursday, but that was to be expected due to the bad weather. One man who was down nice and early was Mark Walsh, who was out celebrating his birthday! He was first up on stage and sang two great songs, Under the Bridge by the Chillie Peppers and then With or Without you by U2, and it must be something to do with the old age, but he is getting better every week! Marks good friend James Hennessy was up next, and did two of his classics, the world famous Wonderboy by Jack Black and then The Artic Monkeys track, When the Sun Goes Down, both of which really got the night going! Another of our regulars, Frank, was up next. He did a song that he last did in Tenerife in 1982, and that was Elvis and American Triology followed by The Boomtown Rats hit, I Don't Like Mondays, and this week he was word and note perfect, probably because I didn't put him off!! Our fourth singer on stage was the ever mad, ever entertaining Shane Butler. He did My Way by The Sex Pistols, which all the group from Hewlett Packard really enjoyed! Next up we had a young man that I hadn't heard singing before. His name was Conor O' Rourke and he sang Razorlight and Fall to Pieces and 10/10, he was excellent! First lady on stage last Thursday was Anne-Marie who pretended that she worked for Hewlett Packard just to get the free drink! She sang a song for her husband Dave, who really does work for Hewlett Packard and it was Women In Love by Barbara Strisand, and I will be honest, she was superb and got a massive round of applause. Daniel, our Aussie mate, was up next and did Snow (Hey Ho) by the Chillie Peppers followed by One by U2, and he was as good as he is every week! Another Aussie up next, this time in the form of a female! Another Hewlett Packard staff member and another super singer! Sam sang the ultimate in sing a long songs, Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and everyone was really starting to loosten up.... Our next singers joined us all the way from Hungry (which I really was at this stage). Mariann and Tommy belted out the Andy Williams Classic, Can't Take My Eyes off You, and the party had really started at this point! We were starting to run out of time at this stage, but not before we got a few more people up! Mr Yeates (Peter not WB) was the next choice. He realised that everyone was in good form, and dancing and singing, so, being a pro he picked the up-tempo Footloose by Kenny Loggins and was fantastic. James and Shane returned to the stage next, and I asked them not to make a mess of this, and they didn't let me down. The sang the Beastie Boys track, Fight for Your Right to Party, and I was amazed at how good it was! Thanks lads! The night would not have been complete without our next singer. He stood quietly in the corner all night waiting for his chance. The resemblence to Sinatra was uncanny! He flew for 17hrs, all the way from Chilie, just to sing for us! Hi name was John, and he did my favourite song of all time, Frank Sinatras, My Way and we could have been in Vegas to be honest! It was time for our DJ John to take over and keep everyone in the great form they were in. Once again, Happy Birthday Mark! Thanks for reading and thanks for singing. And remember, Karaoke, Bad Bobs, this and every Thursday night. It's just a bit of fun for your Thursday nights! Over and out! Well, not quiet! This Thursday (Holy Thursday) Karaoke will kick off at 7.30pm, thats right 7.30pm, so get there nice and early as it will be really busy from early! Over and out.
