Break for the Border - Friday 16th March 2007

It was the eve of St. Patricks Day in Break for the Border last Friday, and what a night we had!! Claire and Charmaine (both officially mad by the way) got the ball rolling for us and they did Mariah Carey and Hero followed by our first Irish (well sort of!!) song of the night and that was One by U2 (and Mary J Blige, but we won't mention that bit because its nearly Paddys Day!) Next up was Alan Roche who did a superb job of the Garth Brooks, Barry Manilow and Ronan Keating track If Tomorrow Never Comes. Our next singer came all the way from Scotland! Marelle comes from Airshire and was in Dublin to celebrate her friend Lindseys Birthday (40th, shhhhh!!) She did the Carly Simon classic You're So Vain, a personal favourite of mine, and she was brilliant at it, probably not her first time to do it! Andy Iles from England was next to entertain the crowd in Break on Friday. He did the big floor filler I'm Your Man by Wham! and again, was really good. Scott slowed things down a bit with Elton Johns Can You Feel The Love Tonight, and it was obvious it wasn't his first time either, a really high standard of singing. Marelle (left) joined us back on stage next, this time with Lindsay (birthday girl) Clare and Caroline and they got veeryone up on the floor with some Abba, this time Dancing Queen. Break for the Border regular Terry was our next singer on stage, and was as good and as popular as ever with The Dance by Garth Brooks. There will be no post this week as all the An Post crew were all on the gargle on Friday night!! Adel and Karen (top right) from An Post were next up and they did a great tune by Tiffaney, I Think We're Alone Now, and they seemed to really enjoy themselves! Oh and they were good as well! Next in Break, was Bad Bobs regular Shane. The regulars in the bar didn't know what hit them as Shane, now officially the madest entertainer around, did My Way by Frank Sinatra, and if you haven't seen this yet, you have got to come along and check it out!! Next up was Marion. I know a fair bit about this young girl, but can't tell you!! She sang Hit Me One More Time by Britney Spears and it was good for her first time. The only barstaff in Ireland with a stalker was our next singer on stage! Ronan sang the song from Grease, Greased Lightning and why do all the ladies love him??! Gus was up next, and I was looking forward to this since I saw the song come up. He did My Generation by The Who and was really good, thanks Gus! Cristina was our next singer. She flew in from Madrid just to sing in Break for the Border and was superb at Rivers of babylon by Boney M! Next up was Liverpool fan Gareth Battersby and he too was great, singing the Johnny Cash song Ring of Fire. David got a surprise when he came up to sing New York New York! We changed it to The Fields of Athenry, being Paddy Weekend and all that, and fair play to him, he did a great job at short notice! Fred was totally put on the spot next! He was made sing Irish Rover and 10/10 to him, not the easiest song to do and he was brilliant! Thanks Fred. Macker was our final singer of the night and in the true spirit of Paddys Day he sang Seven Drunken Nights and then it was time to have a few drinks and celebrate the early hours of St Patricks day and dance our way home! Thanks for reading and thanks for singing! Don't forget, Karaoke, Break for the Border, next, and every Friday night from 9pm. It's just a bit of fun for a Friday Night! Over and out.
