Break for the Border - Friday 2nd March 2007

A warning!! If you are coming to Break for the Border for Karaoke on a Friday, BE THERE EARLY!! It is just so busy in Break every Friday now, and we have so many singers by 10pm, that you have got to be there early if you want to sing!! We had a few parties in Break last Friday night, and our first singer on stage was from a big party that AFS were having. Chrisie, who comes all the way from Naas, and who was dressed up as a school girl (i think it was a fancy dress party they were having!) started things off for us with the Peggy Lee song Fever. She was so good at it, we got her to do another song! This time she sang Downtown by Petula Clarke, and even though it was her first time to try it, we think she pulled it off. Our next singer caused a bit of a stir when she came up. She is from Stamullen which is in County Meath, although one protester at the front claimed it was in Dublin! She was dressed like Britney Spears, and did a song by her, Oops I Did It Again, and she seemed to enjoy it! Bad Bobs regular Elaine, joined us in Break for the first time. She sang Fame by Irene Cara, and was as good as she always is. Ronan joined us on stage next. His stalker seems to have vanished since we posted her freakish behaviour on this very site! He changed from his usual New York New York to another Sinatra classic, That's Life, and for whatever reason, he always gets a huge cheer and scream! Maybe people are looking to get served quicker at the bar! Our next entertainer on stage came all the way from Glasgow, which is in Scotland you may or may not know! Lee is his name and he celebreated his birthday on Friday night and what better way to celebrate than singing 500 Miles by the Proclaimers! MC Marco from Sydney, or Bad Bobs (think he has spent more time there than Sydney!) if you like. He did the original white rap song from the original white rapper! Of course, it is Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice. He also did some freestyling here too, which was the dogs! Next up we had Bad News...... Brown Eyed Girl was his choice! What a strange name.... Loretta Browne from the HSE (Health Service Excetutive) was next up. She did Guns N Roses Sweet Child of Mine (told you it was getting really popular!) and she had all the HSE on the dance floor head banging! Next up was Bernie and Tracey. A last second change of song by Stephen, meant that they did the Abba Megamix, and although nobody ever admits it, everyone loved it and danced to it! Next up, all the way from Bologna in Italy was Luca. He did his favourite song, Proud Mary by Creedence, and he was doing great until someone walked up and started talking to him and threw him totaly! Another of the HSE crowd joined us next. Eileen Gunnery, from Lucan in Dublin sang The Carpenters classic, Top of the World, and all the HSE girls had there hands in the air for that one. Next up was the worst pool player in the world! His name is Terry, and thankfully he is a better singer than pool player! He sang Garth Brooks If Tomorrow Never Comes, and as i said, he is a good singer. Ingrid and Astrid(left) were up next and they come from Malaga! They sang I will Survive by Gloria Gaynor and they were great, but even if they weren't, it wouldn't have mattered! Kate, Ash and Collette sang next, sorta! They did a song called My Sharona, shall we leave it at that girls! Mary joined us next, and she works for MBNA, the Bankers! Like a Virgin by Madonna was her choice, and although all the spotters were out looking for one, we are still to see one in Break for the Border! Gary Kelly (not the footballer) from Tallaght got everyone in the party mood with Elton Johns Crocadile Rock and sticking with the classics, Mickey from Tipperary did The Beatles track, I Saw Her Standing There. The Cheq Republic were the next country represented in our International Song Contest! Monika was there entrant and a top job of Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler she did! Last but not least last Friday, we had Jack and Len join us on stage for the Queen Sing a Long favourite, Radio Ga Ga and then everyone was in the mood for dancing so the DJ took them all the way home for a Friday night. He said never again, people kept leving sweet papers on the floor of his car! Don't forget, Break for the Border, this and every Friday from now and until the end of time! Over and out.
