Break for the Border - Friday 23rd Feb 2007

Finally it was rugby weekend in Break for the Border! Another full house and everyone in great spirits! We got the Karaoke kicked off nice and early, and first up we had three young ladies, Edel, Vivienne, and Elise. Laura didn't bother joining them on stage! They joined us from Balbriggan, Ballymun and Artane and sang the Shoop Shoop Song from Cher. Next singer on stage was Alex and he was out with all the gang from IACT. It wasn't his first time to sing, and seemed to really enjoy singing Brown Eyed Girl, by Van Morrison. Our next singer came from the biggest party that was in on Friday night, The Loctite Party! Her name was Fiona Nelson, and she was really nervous, but got over the nerves fairly quickly as she belted out The Mamas and The Papas, California Dreaming. Next up was Liam, who is a better singer than pool player! He got the whole place going with the Aslan smash, Crazy World. The girl who usualy is first up in Break, Vanessa W, was up next and she gave the Pink track, U and Ur Hands and go, and did a great job of it. The gang from Cross Care joined us on Friday night, and Darren Reilly had them all singing and hands waving to the Garth Brooks number, If Tomorrow Never Comes. Colette Hogan changed her song at the last minute, and what a good decision that was! Instead of the Power of Love by Jennifer Rush, she sang I Wanna Dance With Somebody, by Whitney Housten, and for the first time of the night, the dance floor started to fill up! Doreen and Ciara kept everyone dancing with Flashdance What a Feeling. Joan Arkins, who was with Doreen and Ciara, who were just out, no excuse, no party, just on a night out, was up next and she also sang a Whitney number, The Greatest Love of All. Andy Turner, who was out celebrating his girlfriend Rachels 27th birthday, was our next singer on stage. Guns N Roses Sweet Child of Mine was his choice, and it went down a bomb! His girlfriend Rachel was next to join us. 2 become 1, by everyones favourite girlband, The Spice Girls, was her choice, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Next up was a young lady from Lusk in North County Dublin. Her name?? Cara "the sex kitten" Martin! Even though she declined the offer of a lift home(!), we still let her sing, and again, I think she was a semi pro! She sang Don't Speak by No Doubt, and it was all too good to have been her first time!! Bank of Ireland Global Markets, Talbot Street, joined us in Break, and their favourite daughter Michelle Harris, was their selection to sing next, and she sang one of my favourites, Walking in Memphis, this time the Cher version. Eoin from IACT (software training company) was up next and he sang Angels by Robbie and the response from the crowd was as expected, all singing and dancing! Young Darren Reilly joined us on stage for his second time of the night and sang With or Without you by U2. I was really surprised with the next song. Lorraine Ryan did Rotterdam by the Beautiful South, and with it being a kinda middle of the road song, I didn't think it would go down that well! How wrong was I?? EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE, sang along to this one! The third Cher song of the Night was next. Probably her best song of the last few years, Believe, was Georgina Reynolds choice, and again, the dance floor was packed! Next of all I saw something in the flesh that I have never seen before! It was people from Roscommon! And just like buses, you wait all your life for one, and two come along at the same time! Nicola and Karina, were these two young ladies, and I am serious, they are from Roscommon!! They sang a song that has just been released in Roscommon, and it is Son of a Preacher man by Dusty Sprinfield(That's a joke before you all get offended!!) Next up was Shane from Dun Laoighre and he came straight from a Snooker match I think? Why else would he be wearing a waistcoat! Tom Jones Sex Bomb was his choice, and all the ladies were diggin him when he sang it! Bad Bobs regular, Mark Walsh was up next in Break for the Border, and the ultimate sing a long song, Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash was what he sang, and sing a long is what everyone did! Our next singer travelled all the way from Clondalkin, and his name was Sean Hennessy! He did Mustang Sally from The Committments. Our next singer came from Engalnd, Lecister. Not a good weekend for him, Come on Ireland! Anyway, he sang Wonderwall from Oasis, and like all the English that were in, he got a nice cheer from all the Irish!Last up for this night, were Paul and Andy! They got everyone up and even one girl on the tables, singing Daydream beliver by the Monkeys! A great way to finish a great night, and a brilliant start to a great weekend for all Irish people! Thanks for reading and thanks for singing. Don't forget, Break for the Border, this and everysingle Friday from now until the end of time! And remember, is's only a bit of fun for a Friday night! Over and out.
